When we were in London we went to the Globe Theatre. It used to be here a long time ago. A famous person who writes plays called Shakespeare built the Globe and did plays there. Here's what I've learned about the Globe Theatre.
- They shot cannons in the plays and one time they broke the roof.
- When there was the plague they had to shut the theatre. The plague was a disease that killed many people but it didn't get everyone.
- The roof wasn't a normal roof. It was called a thatched roof.
- The rich people could sit on seats but the poor people stood up on the ground. They were called groundlings. The rich people didn't have to get hit by rain because the roof covered them, but the groundlings did.

We saw a show called "Mouth Open, Story Jump Out." A man called Polarbear acted out and told us a story about when he was a little boy. In the story he told a lie about his Dad being a spy. At the end he learned it's bad to lie. We helped him tell the story by calling out ideas. When he asked for a job I called out "Lego Designer!"

We even got to draw a picture of one of the characters as part of the show! I drew the teacher who was really calm.
There was a Storytelling Festival at the Globe so next we went to Bottom's Book Market.
We watched a talk about the clothes the actors used to wear in Shakespeare's plays. The man put on the dress to show us. I got to hold the dress. It was quite heavy.
This is a special WIND-MAKER. In Shakespeare's time they would have it on the stage and if there was a storm, someone would turn the handle to make the sound of wind and rain.
We also got to explore the book forest and read some books.
I loved the Globe. It was very fascinating and cool to be in the theatre that was used long ago in time
Aylana and I always make a point of taking in as many plays as we can when the Globe is in Auckland. We love bring groundlings. 😃
ReplyDeleteTo be where it all started must be amazing.
HI Karen, I love you Karen. I miss you so much. I miss the time that you looked after us. We had so much fun at the Globe and when we were in York we went to the Rose Theatre that was also from Shakespeares time. I stood on an olden-days stage that was a wagon and I did my poem. It was fun. Lots of love Patch xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
